What is NSLI life insurance?

NSLI stands for National Service Life Insurance. NSLI life insurance is a type of life insurance policy that was offered by the federal government but is not issued any longer. This life insurance policy was particularly designed and offered to soldiers and other members of the United States Armed Services during World War II and up until 1951.
Under national service life insurance policy military personnel get compensation for their service. Eligibility for the NSLI insurance program was one of the aspects of that compensation to active service members and veterans of the Second World War. NSLI life insurance coverage was available to anyone serving in the army, navy, marines, coast guard, and the women’s auxiliaries.
Apart from the death benefit being paid out as a part of the life insurance coverage, the national service life insurance also provides a disability benefit (if applicable) to policyholders who became disabled prior to turning 65.
